Bushenyi District Lacking Ambulance Services

The district has got only one pick up which is attached to Kyabugimbi health center four and is the one that is on some occasions used as an ambulance. This puts citizens at risk in respect to rapid response to emergences. Citizens still trek for long distances to get health services in many of the sub counties.

Bushenyi district is operating without out an Ambulance.

The district has only one pick up which is attached to Kyabugimbi Health Centre IV which is sometimes used as an ambulance.

Some residents are forced to walk for long distances to access health services due to the absence of an ambulance.

Moses Turyagumanawe, a resident of Kyabugimbi Sub County says that expectant mothers in the area are facing challenges accessing health services due the absence of ambulance services.

Anania Bakanja, a Boda Boda cyclist in Bitooma Sub County, says that he has for the last three years transported more than 10 expectant mothers to health facilities because there is no ambulance in the area.

He says that two of the mothers he was transporting to health facilities gave birth on the way while another developed complications leading to the death of the baby.

Verelia Arinaitwe, a resident of Kakanju Sub County in Bushenyi District says she tried to request for an ambulance to take her to Ishaka Adventist hospital last year in vain. She says that she couldn't raise money to hire a car, forcing her relatives to carry her on their shoulders.

Elly Muhwezi, the Programs Director for Uganda Citizens Alliance says that the only available transport means are not fit to transport people who are in urgent need for medical attention.

Muhwezi says that it is unfortunate that the people of Bushenyi still struggle to access ambulance services.

Edward Mwesigwa the Bushenyi District Health Officer says that health centres have non-functional ambulances because they broke down and need repair.

Mwesigwa says that the district cannot afford the cost of buying new ambulances.
