Bushenyi district leaders have rejected a consignment of 955 bags of cassava cuttings supplied to them under the Operation Wealth Creation-OWC program.

The cuttings were delivered last week for distribution to farmers in sub counties of the district.

However records at the district production department, indicate that the cuttings were requested for by the district last year in August, but there was a delay by OWC to supply them to the beneficiaries.

In a letter dated 14th May 2018, signed by Robinah Tumwebaze for, the Chief Administrative Officer Bushenyi and addressed to the executive director National Agricultural Advisory services-NAADS, the leaders indicate that the cuttings were supplied late and cannot be planted.

Tumwebaze says that the cuttings should instead be supplied in August, when the planting season starts.

David Bainomugisha, the Bushenyi district production officer says that distributing the cuttings to farmers at such a time is a wastage of time.

The cuttings in question were reportedly delivered by Dorothy Nakalema on behalf of OWC.

Efforts to get a comment from Major Eric Kigambwoha the Operation wealth creation coordinator for Bushenyi district were fruitless.
