Authorities in Bushenyi –Ishaka Municipality are on the spot over alleged shoddy work on a major bridge.
The residents are concerned over the quality of works at Bunyarigyi Bridge along Kashenyi –Bunyarigyi road, despite spending 45 million shillings on construction.
The bridge has since developed deep cracks and its curving in.
Bunyarigyi Bridge connects Ruharo ward, Kisenyi ward in Ishaka division and Ibaare Sub County to Ishaka Municipality.
It is mainly used by the rural communities to transport their produce to the Municipality's central business district.
Pison Mugizi, one of the concerned residents says that the state of the bridge has affected traffic flow and business.
Mackay Twijukye a resident of Bunyaringi says the road is no longer safe for public use since the bridge is now a threat to all road users especially pupils.
Apollo Kakonge the Executive Director West Ankole civil society forum says that there is no value for money for the works executed.
He says that the authorities should also explain why they never hired a contractor and instead decided to work on the bridge on their own.
Bushenyi Ishaka Municipality Mayor Jackson Kamugasha, admits construction works were below standards. He says that the Municipal Engineer has been told to rectify the defects.
