Moses Kalungi has been nominated to contest for the Makindye Division Mayoral race.

Kalungi was elected Mayor in 2006 but lost in 2011 to Ian Clarke.

Kalungi, who will contest on the Democratic Party-DP ticket, says that he is ready to compete and serve the division. He says that he will focus his five years on fighting poverty and improving the sanitation, which he says are currently the major challenges facing the division.

Kalungi who is commonly known as Bill Gates says that he will invest in different income-generating activities that will empower the poor and vulnerable people in the Division.

Kalungi will contest against Ali Kasirye Nganda Mulyanyama of the National Unity Platform-NUP party, David Sabuka Tigatoola FDC, Henry Kigenyi of the Activists Party and Bob Muhumuza of the NRM.

The others are Zikusooka Ali Ahmed of JEEMA, James Sewanyana Malcom Alliance of National Transmission-ANT, Perus Munaaba and Kiyemba Muzafaru who are Independent candidates.

In August Buganda Road Chief Magistrates’ Court remanded Kalungi to Kitalya Prison on allegations of breaking into his tenants' shop and stealing items valued at 44 Million Shillings.

However, Kalungi says that the allegations against him are politically motivated and meant to tarnish his name.
