Bwera Hospital Grappling with Old Equipment

The Hospital Administrator, Clarence Bwambale, says that some of the equipment they are using to offer services to patients was acquired 25 years ago and is worn out and has been overtaken by technology.

Bwera General hospital in Kasese district is grappling with obsolete equipment. The affected equipment includes dental tools, wheelchairs, sterilizers, a microscope, and a theater table among others.

The Hospital Administrator, Clarence Bwambale, says that some of the equipment they are using to offer services to patients was acquired 25 years ago and is worn out and has been overtaken by technology.

Bwambale also noted that with the growing population of patients, most times the facility runs out of medicines forcing patients to buy from private clinics. He also noted that the facility lacks an ambulance mainly to handle referral cases since the old one burnt down in May last year.

Eliphazi Muhindi, the Kasese district LC V chairperson says Bwera hospital is largely serving as a referral hospital for the district population. He calls on the government to re-equip it to fit the current health challenges.

The State Minister for ICT and National Guidance,Godfrey Kabyanga acknowledged the challenges and promised to alert the relevant Ministry to see that all obsolete equipment is replaced.
