Olympian Sasha Gollish will lead Canada's team to the 2017 IAAF World Cross Country Championship to take place in Uganda.
Sasha Gollish, who won the senior women's 10km race at the national championships in Canada will lead the team together Lisa Brooking. The two were part of the Canada team that became the first to register for the event which takes place March 26th at the Kololo Independence Grounds.
“We received the entry of Canada on Thursday and hope more countries will send in their entries soon,” Dominic Otuchet, President of the Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) told URN.
The Canada junior teams will also have a strong contingent of athletes Hannah Bennison, Brogan MacDougall and Ehab El-Sandali for the the junior men's team among others.
Team Uganda also 2012 marathon Olympic gold medalist Stephen Kiprotich in the team that is currently training. Head coach Benjamin Longiross said they will pick the final team next month after the national Championships.
Uganda beat Bahrain in the bid to host the Championship. The international Athletics body, IAAF already released the prize money of UGX1,080,000 (US$300,000) for both individual and team events.
