The political atmosphere in Omoro County has heated up as candidates make their final lap to solicit votes ahead of the parliamentary by-election slated for May 26, 2022.
Campaigns for the Omoro County Parliamentary by-elections kicked off on May 16.Six candidates are in the race to fill the seat that fell vacant following the death of former Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Oulanyah on March 20, 2022.
They are Jimmy Walter One, Terrence Odonga, all Independent Candidates, and Justine Odong, the Forum for Democratic Change Party candidates. The others are Oscar Kizza, the Alliance for National Transformation-ANT candidate, Simon Toolit Akecha, the National Unity Platform-NUP party candidate, and Andrew Ojok Oulanyah, National Resistance Movement party candidate.

FDC’s Odong while campaigning in Awoo Town Board also reiterated the need to provide safe and clean water to the locals and improve the education sector, which has been ignored for a long time. Odong noted that once elected into Parliament, he will be a good listener and will work closely with the local community and their leaders to ensure equal development.
“I won’t disappoint my people once elected, I will listen to your problems and speak the same concerns in Parliament. I will be a servant leader,” he told his supporters. Party Presidents also joined some of their candidates on Monday to galvanize their support ahead of the by-election. These included FDC party president Patrick Amuriat Oboi and Maj Gen (Rtd) Mugisha Muntu, the ANT party president.
While addressing their supporters in Awoo Town Board, Oboi told locals to trust their candidate arguing that he is a trusted and tested leader.

Oboi said their candidate has been with the locals, went through the same sufferings, and thus understands their problems better than someone who hasn’t lived amongst them.
