Cardinal Wamala Celebrates 40 Years as Bishop, with Kiyinda – Mityana Diocese

Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala has celebrated 40 years since he was ordained Bishop while the Diocese of Kiyinda-Mityana also marked 40 years since it was established.

It was joy as Emmanuel Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala  celebrated 40 years as Bishop from Kiyinda-Mityana Diocese, where he served as the first primate.       

Kiyinda – Mityana Diocese also marked 40 years since it was promulgated and solemnly inaugurated on November 22 1981.  

The   Diocese of Kiyinda – Mityana is found in Kampala Ecclesiastical Province comprising of the civil Districts of Mubende, Mityana, Kiboga, Kyankwanzi and Gomba.         

Pope Francis through the Nuico, Archbishop Luigi Bianco sent good wishes and assured His Eminence of his closeness in prayer.       The Holy father also commended Cardinal Wamala for his years of devoted service to the church in Uganda.         

According to the message read by Kiyinda-Mityana Diocesan Bishop Joseph Anthony Zziwa, the Pope prayed that the 40 years’ anniversary would fill the Cardinal, strengthen him and give him comfort especially in these days as he mourns the death of his brother.           

Cardinal Wamala’s young brother Monsignor Henry Kyabukasa died last month.         “Entrusting you to the intercession of the Blessed virgin Mary, the Holy Father willingly impart his apostolic blessing which he extends to the members of your family and all those taking part in the anniversary celebrations,” reads the message.       

Cardinal Wamala who marked 40 years of episcopal ordination since he was consecrated bishop expressed profound attachment to the Diocese of Kiyinda-Mityana saying it occupies a special place in his heart.      

He recalled laying a foundation stone for Kiyinda-Mityana Diocese and  asked believers to make every effort to remain united in the Spirit of God and live in peace.

The Cardinal also commended Bishop Zziwa for inviting him to the memorable occasion and asked God to give him power and courage to execute his duties.         

Bishop Zziwa used the occasion to highlight the achievements which include growth in the number of parishes from 14 to 28, increase in the number of believers from 300,000 to more than 628,050, from 14 priests to 152 and from 120 church founded schools to 287 schools among others.

Mityana Municipality MP, Francis Zaake said that they will use the 40 years’ anniversary to always speak and walk with the truth and not denying the Catholic faith as taught bythe church.
