A source in the palace says the caretaker was burnt as he tried to rescue some of the property from one of the huts. John Baluku, the Kingdom minister for disaster preparedness says the destroyed property included records and some regalia that cannot be revealed anyhow.
Richard Turyasingura, the assistant fire officer Kasese says the way the grass thatched huts are close to each other inside the palace is dangerous, adding that, the huts should be separated by a distance of ten meters.
Hundreds of people trekked to the palace throughout the afternoon to see what had happened there.
