Dolly Oryem, the head teacher Gulu Primary School says the fire started while pupils were in class for evening prep.
Police in Gulu town have arrested Charles Odong, a former casual labourer at Gulu Primary School over an arson attack on the school dormitory.

The fire which started at about 10:30 pm on Wednesday left the school dormitory destroyed. No one was injured.

Dolly Oryem, the head teacher Gulu Primary School says the fire started while pupils were in class for evening prep. She says the fire which affected student boxes, beds and other personal effects was put off by Fire Brigade from St. Mary's Hospital Lacor.

Patrick Oola Lumumba, the Bar Dege Division Chairperson condemned the attack saying it traumatizes students trying to recover from the effects of conflicts in the region.

Patrick Jimmy Okema, the Aswa River Police Spokesperson says Odong has been linked to the fire over threats he uttered when he was recently sacked from the school.

It is the first major fire incident in a school in the region since peace returned to the region in 2006.

Last year, students of St. Mary's College in Amuru district destroyed their school during a student strike.
