The Secretary of the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) has confirmed that Uganda will host the 2018 U-20 Championship between December 15-23rd.
“We have already agreed with Uganda and will have this tournament to end the year,” Nicholas Musonye told URN in Nairobi on Sunday.
Musonye made it clear that they expect all the 11 member countries; Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Eritrea, Sudan, South Sudan, Rwanda and Burundi to send teams.
He also confirmed that the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup will not take place this year because no member was willing to host after Kenya withdrew.
“We were disorganized after Kenya withdrew that they could not host because of financial challenges,” explained Musonye.
This year the region only managed to stage the CECAFA Women's Championship in Kigali, Rwanda and the CECAFA U-17 Championship in Tanzania which was also used as a qualifier for the 2019 U-17 AFCON.
