There was chaos at Jinja Senior Secondary play grounds in Jinja City this morning during the elections of the Central Executive Committee members for the ruling National Resistance Movement-NRM party.

Trouble started after the Jinja LC V Chairperson, Titus Kisambira and Kagoma County Member of Parliament, Moses Walyomu were turned away from the polls on grounds that their names were not on the approved voter’s register.

The two attempted to forcefully access the polling area but were blocked by police officers at the entrance. Kisambira told URN that he is a member of the National Executive Committee-NEC and was surprised that his name was missing on the register.

Cue out…its’ really disturbing,”//

Kisambira says the NRM party secretariat should have crosscheck the names of all delegates before printing the registers.

Walyomu also wondered why his name didn’t appear on the register given the fact that he voted in the National Executive Committee polls on Wednesday.

Cue out…a printing mistake,”//

Kato Kaziba, the Jinja District NRM Secretary says they expected 125 voters. However, the voters register only had the names of 106 delegates.

He explained that they will engage the party Electoral Commission to ensure that all delegates whose names were omitted from the registers are cleared to participate in the elections before the close of the exercise.
