Uganda's Mercyline Chelangat settled for 11th place in the 3000m race on Sunday at the 2018 Seiko Golden Grand Prix in Osaka, Japan.
Chelangat found the going tough as she recorded a time of 9:09.28 in a race won by Ethiopia's Shuru Bulo 8:47.24. Kenya's duo of Hellen Ekarare Lobun and Ann Karindi Mwangi finished second and third respectively.
“ Although Chelangat did not win the race, it was god for her as it helps on improving on speed for her preferred 5000m and 10000m races,” Dominic Otuchet, Chairman of of Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) told URN on Monday.
Chelangat won a bronze medal for Uganda in the 10,000m race at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in Australia. The race was won by another Ugandan Stella Chesang.
Meanwhile, in the FNB Cape Town 12 Onerun that took place in South Africa on Sunday, Chesang settled for second place in the 10km race with a time of 39:28.3. Kenya's Jackline Chepngeno won the race with a time of 39:12. 2
Kenya's Morris Gachaga defended the title in the men's category with a time of 33:42.2, while Uganda's duo of Abdallah Mande (33:53. 5) and Mande Bushendich (33:55. 6) finished fourth and fifth respectively.
