Uganda's Peruth Chemutai set a personal best time of 9:27:72 in the 3000m steeplechase race at the 2017 IAAF Diamond League in Shanghai, China this evening.
She finished seventh in a race won by Bahrain's Ruth Jebet with a time of 9:04:78. Chemutai who also took part in the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil had her previous personal best time at 9:31:03.
Chemutai broke through the International ranks at the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games in Apia where she won silver medals in the 1500m and 3000m. She also competed in the junior women's race at the 2017 IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Kampala, finishing in 7th place.
In the 5000m women's race Uganda's Mercyire Chelangat also managed eighth place and set a new personal best time of 15:09:45. The race was won by Kenya's Hellen Obiri, while Senbere Teferi (Ethiopia) was second.
The 1500m women's race was also won by Kenya's Faith Kipyegon, while Bett Kiyyegon (Kenya) was in good form to win the 800m men's race.
Last week another Ugandan athlete Jacob Kiplimo finished seventh in the 3000m race at the IAAF Diamond League in Doha, but set a personal best time of 7:43:73.
