Top athletes Joshua Cheptegei (5000m) and Peruth Chemutai (3000m) will take part in the IAAF Diamond League in Shanghai, China on May 14th.
Dominic Otuchet, President of the Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) told URN on Wednesday that the two athletes will mingle with the world top athletes in the second Edition of the IAAF Diamond League this season.
“The two athletes are preparing well with Cheptegei using the event to shape up for the Olympic Games in Brazil, while Chemutai is also hoping to use the event to hit the mark and qualify for the Olympics,†said Otuchet.
The season will open with the IAAF Diamond League on on Friday in Doha before the meeting in Shanghai on May 14 expected to provide an outstanding curtain-raiser to this year's series.
Once again, the series of 14 meetings are each offering over UGX1.7 billion (US$480,000) in prize money and the IAAF Diamond League showcases 32 event disciplines which are carefully distributed among the meetings.
