Uganda's trio of Joshua Kiprui Cheptegei, Jacob Kiplimo and Jacob Araptany will be in action today at the on-going 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Jeneiro.

Team Uganda captain Cheptegei who finished sixth in the men's 10,000m final will this time turn attention to the men's 5,000m qualifier where he will again compete against world champion Mohamed Farah (England).

Philip Kipyeko will be Uganda's second runner competing in the 5,000m men's heats.  “We are keeping our fingers crossed and hoping our two runners have a good run,” Dominic Otuchet, President Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) told URN online from Brazil.

In the 3,000m steeplechase final Araptany who qualified on Monday will have to be at his best as he battles against top runners. Although Araptany registered the second best time in the qualifiers he will face stiff challenge from two top Kenyan runners Ezekeil Kemboi and Conseslus Kipruto.

Meanwhile, Nigeria's U-23 football team will face Germany later today in the semi finals at the Olympics, while hosts Brazil will take on Honduras.

A Japanese plastic surgeon, Katsuya Takasu, has promised each member of the Nigeria team UGX99 million ($30,000) if they win Rio 2016 Olympics football gold medal. Takasu has said winning a silver will fetch them UGX66 million ($20,000) each and for bronze UGX33 million ($10,000).
