star athlete Joshua Cheptegei is among the five finalists nominated for the
award of the Best Male World Athlete of the year 2021. Cheptegei made the final
list with four other top athletes.
Cheptegei had a tremendous season in 2021 that saw him bag two medals in the
Olympic games. Cheptegei won one Gold medal in the 5000m category and won a
silver in the 10000m distance. He also recorded a world-leading 8:09.55 over
the 2-miles distance.

“The five athletes, who represent five countries from three area associations,
have produced some exceptional performance across a range of athletics
disciplines in 2021 at the Tokyo Olympic Games, one-day meeting circuits, and other
events around the world”, a statement from world athletics read.
According to world athletics, the male and female world athletes of the year
will be announced at the World Athletics awards event that is expected to take
place on December 1.
The voting process comprises three parties including the world athletics
council, the world athletics family, and the public. The world athletics
council vote counted for 50% of the result, the world athletics family also
contributed 25% and the public vote also contributed 25%.
