Uganda’s star athlete Joshua Cheptegei will today take part in the third meeting of the 2021 Wanda Diamond League at the Stadio Luigi Ridolfi in Florence, Italy.

The long distance runner will be racing for the first time since his 3000m record attempt in Ostrava three weeks ago in Czech republic. He will be making his first Diamond League appearance of the 2021 season.

Cheptegei said he has done enough preparation and feels his body is in much better shape compared to the situation in Ostrava. The star athlete and world 5,000m and 10,000m holder said he is targeting to run a personal best of 12:40

Cue out: time of 12:40.”//

The athlete however said he anticipates competition from the Canadian long distance runners and Ethiopians runners. Cheptegei will compete alongside Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen and Mohamed Katir.

Cheptegei has a personal best time of 12:35.36 which he set in August 2020, at the Monaco Diamond League meet where he broke Kenenisa Bekele's 16-year-old world record of 12:37.35 set in Hengelo.

Cheptegei will also use the Diamond League in Italy to prepare for the Tokyo Olympics slated to take place July 23rd to August 8th.
