Chinese Youth Volunteers Will Strengthen Uganda-China Ties

The Chinese Ambassador in Uganda, H.E Zhao Yali has said the coming of the 15 Chinese Youth volunteers in Uganda will help lay a good foundation which will fasten the good existing relationship between the two countries.

The Chinese Ambassador in Uganda, H.E Zhao Yali has said the coming of the 15 Chinese Youth volunteers in Uganda will help lay a good foundation which will fasten the good existing relationship between the two countries.

Yali was speaking during the welcome ceremony for the youthful volunteers at his residence in Kololo on Friday, October 12. The 15 volunteers will be in Uganda for one year will be attached to athletics, basketball, table tennis, gymnastics, Chinese language teaching and aquaculture.

The Ambassador said sending volunteers to Africa is one of the missions between China-African cooperation announced during the 2006 Beijing Conference.

The Acting Commissioner of Sports in the Ministry of Education and Sports in Uganda, Lamex Omara Apitta thanked the Chinese Embassy for helping the Ugandan government make sure the volunteers come to Uganda.

The State Minister for Sports, Charles Bakkabulindi said he was equally happy that Uganda is benefiting from the more experienced Chinese. He highlighted that it is also the Chinese who had built the 42,500 capacity seater Namboole Stadium which they have continued to maintain in terms of the technical needs.

Liu Zelin, one of the volunteers who will handle Chinese teaching told Uganda Radio Network (URN) in an interview that he is happy to be in Uganda and hoped that they will make so many friends and also help impart knowledge in the one year programme.

The Vice President of the Federation of Uganda Basketball Association (FUFA), Patrick Ogwel said the coming of the volunteers and in particular two of them who will help basketball has come at the right time when they need to impart as much knowledge of the game especially within schools.
