Christians, Clergy Flock Home of Mukono Bishop Elect for Early Celebrations

The House of Bishops seated at Lweza Conference Center elected the Very Rev. Enos Kitto Kagodo the 5th Bishop of Mukono on Wednesday to replace Bishop James William Ssebaggala.

Christians and clergies in Mukono Diocese are flocking to Miracle House, the official residence of the Provost of St. Phillips and Andrews Cathedral on Cathedral Raise to congratulate him upon his election as the 5th Bishop of the diocese.

The House of Bishops seated at Lweza Conference Center elected the Very Rev. Enos Kitto Kagodo the 5th Bishop of Mukono on Wednesday to replace Bishop James William Ssebaggala. Rev. Kitto competed against the Ven. Rev. Godfrey Ssengendo, the Archdeacon of Nasuuti in Mukono Diocese. 

The news of his election ignited celebrations and jubilations among Christians who have been anxiously waiting since Tuesday when the House of Bishops convened. Rev. Edward Muyomba, the Mukono Diocesan Vicar says that they are happy to God for allowing the election of the exact person they have been serving and associating with on a daily basis.

According to Muyomba, the bishop-elect is a parent and a true shepherd in whom they have hope for more development and spiritual transformation.

Sarah Kigongo, one of the Christians in Mukono diocese says the bishop-elect is a perfect replacement for the retiring Bishop. She says they have been going through fasting and days of prayers for such a replacement. Ruth Kibirige, the mother of the Bishop-elect is grateful and excited for her son to achieve on his new responsibility.

She reveals that after the death of her husband,  she started smoking fish to generate money to facilitate the studies of the bishop-elect and God has remembered their efforts.

The Bishop-elect will be enthroned on February 26 at St. Phillips and Andrew’s Cathedral Mukono. Rev. Kitto is a son of Ruth Kibirige and the late James Kibirige Kagodo. 

He started his studies at Namuyenje primary (1979-1986) and went for the Uganda Certificate of Education at Bishop SS, Mukono (1987-1990). He joined Grover C Wilcox School of Mission and Evangelism for a lay reader certificate grade III (1996-1997) before joining Uganda Martyrs Seminary for Certificate in Theology (1999-2002).

He later enrolled for a Diploma in health administration at Uganda Christian University (2008-2009) and a bachelor's in health administration (2011-2014). He was also awarded a master's in divinity last year. He is married to Catherine Namuddu and they have seven biological children and many more spiritual children.  

He has served in various capacities as a lay reader, a priest at Njeru Parish, Pioneer Archdeacon for Lugazi, Archdeacon Seeta, and Vicar at St. Phillips and Andrews Cathedral where he currently serves as the provost. He also served as the LC I chairperson of Nangwa village for five years and as a youth leader.
