Police in the Albertine is investigating circumstances under which
an employee of China Chongqing international construction company limited- CICO
drowned in river Waiga in Buliisa district.
River Waiga is on the Hoima -Biiso -Wanseko road in Buliisa
district. CICO was contracted by the government to tarmac the Hoima-Biiso
Wanseko road.
It is alleged that John Byaruhanga 22 a casual labourer at the CICO Company
drowned and died in the river on Wednesday.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson says that the
deceased was constructing the new Waiga Bridge together with his fellow workers
when he accidentally slid and fell in the speedy running water that eventually
swept him away.
Attempts by his colleagues to rescue Byaruhanga did not yield any fruits.
According to Hakiza, marine police together with the company workers and area
residents have launched the search for his body.

Last week the river burst its bank paralyzing transport on the
Hoima-Biiso wanseko road for close to three days.
The old bridge was constructed to allow the transportation of
machinery to the oil fields in Buliisa was also completely submerged by the
flood water.
