City Oilers Stop Betway Power To Storm NBL Finals

Defending Champions of the National Basketball League City Oilers on Tuesday night stopped Betway Power 84-77 to qualify for finals.

Defending Champions of the National Basketball League City Oilers on Tuesday night stopped Betway Power 84-77 to qualify for finals.

City Oilers knocked off Power with a comfortable 3-0 win in the best of five semifinals games.

In a hotly contested game 3 played at the MTN Area, Lugogo, Betway Power who were trailing in the series put up a fight that ensured a close run in all the four quarters. In the first quarter, Oilers took the lead 24-16 and 45-44 in the first and second quarter.

Oilers returned to take a 66-60 lead in the third and final quarter 84-77.

Although in the last 45 seconds of the game the Oilers led 76-75, a three point jump shot by veteran Stephen Omony gave them a 79-75 victory.

Power's Fahmy Sebatindira and Oilers Stephen Oomny scored 21 points each. The win now puts City Oilers at the finals with either Pemba Warriors or Kampala International University (KIU) Titans depending on who wins the semis. Currently the two are  tied 1-1 in the best of five series.

City Oilers who are defending and four time champions of the National basketball league stopped Power 4-1 in last year's finals.

Meanwhile defending champions in the ladies NBL Uganda Christian University (UCU) Lady Canons picked a 70-62 win to ensure a 1-1 tie in the best of five series against JKL.  Salma Akinyi scored 14 points for JKL

The top two winners of the league proceed to the FIBA Zone Five African Champions
