The newly created Rubanda district lacks a toilet and sanitary facilities for its staff, which compels them to trek for more than one kilometer to find a place of convenience. The only toilet at the district headquarters is none functional.
One of the district employees, who spoke to URN on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal from his bosses, says currently many of them trek to Murole trading center to answer nature's call.
According to the source, some of the officers who are lazy to walk to the trading center ease themselves in the bushes near the district headquarters. He says the absence of toilets at the district headquarters, shows that those who advocated for it weren't prepared to manage it.
Rubanda is one of the new districts that became operational this financial year. Others include Kagadi, Kakumiro and Omoro districts. Another officer told URN that they spend a lot of valuable time trekking to and from Murole trading center to answer nature's call, which affects service delivery to residents.
Richard Mugayehwenki, the Rubanda District Inspector of Schools, says the absence of toilets exposes them to hygiene related diseases. He calls for government intervention to help them to put up toilets for the staff.
Bernard Kasangaki, the Principle Assistant Secretary, Rubanda District, says they are unhappy with the current situation.
