The U-20 women head coach Ayubu Khalifa Kiyingi has summoned 30 players to start preparations for the forthcoming CECAFA U20 Women’s Championship.

Uganda is set to host this year’s edition of the CECAFA U-20 Women’s Championship at FUFA  Technical Center Njeru starting on October 28 to November 9.

The team regroups a few days after they had completed a doubleheader against neighbours Kenya in the world Cup qualifiers. In this competition, Uganda sailed past Kenya with an aggregate of 10-3 in the two games played.

However, some of the u-20 players were later summoned to the Senior National Team (Crested Cranes) to take part in the African Women Cup of Nations qualifiers where Uganda is battling Ethiopia.

Kiyingi maintained almost the entire team that defeated Kenya in the world Cup qualifiers.

According to a press release issued on Wednesday by CECAFA, Auka Gecheo, the CECAFA Executive Director confirmed that the tournament will have only six teams, these include Tanzania, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Burundi and hosts Uganda.

Yusuf Mossi, the CECAFA Director of Competitions said that this edition will be played on a round-robin basis that will help the teams play as many matches as possible.

“It will also help the teams that are still playing in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers,” added Mossi.

According to the fixture released, Uganda will play Burundi in the opening fixture while Tanzania faces Eritrea. Another game will be between Djibouti and Ethiopia, all on October 28th.
