Butiaba Health Center III in Buliisa district is facing challenges due to a significant influx of Congolese nationals seeking healthcare services.

Congolese nationals from Mukambu, Aruko, Nvodu, and Kolokoto in the Democratic Republic of Congo regularly access treatment at the health center.

Additionally, the facility serves residents of both Butiaba town council and Butiaba sub-county, as well as patients from some parts of Hoima district.

With statistics showing over 1000 patients visiting the health facility each month, it caters to a population of approximately 30,000 settlers on Lake Albert shores and those from the DR Congo.

Simon Kule, the facility's in-charge, highlights the strain on resources caused by the influx of Congolese nationals seeking treatment, leading to shortages of essential drugs and putting pressure on the available medical staff.

Despite efforts to extend health services to both residents and foreign nationals, complaints about inadequate services persist due to the overwhelming number of patients.

Kule also notes that the facility is understaffed, with only 14 staff instead of the recommended 24, further hampering effective service delivery.

Residents like Fred Kyaligonza from Magali landing site report instances of going without medication due to the high number of Congolese nationals seeking treatment.

Musa Asaba, the LCIII Chairperson of Butiaba town council, calls for urgent government intervention to bolster the health center's capacity to adequately serve the growing patient population.
