Construction of the 42-Kilometer Kakabara-Nabingola Road in Kyegegwa district has resumed.

The 1.8 Billion Shillings road that connects from Kakabara Sub County in Kyegegwa District to Nabingola in Mubende was constructed under the Development Response to Displacement Impact Project-DRDIP. The program that is under the Office of the Prime Minister is intended to support refugee-hosting communities.

Last month, during a tour of the DRDIP projects in Kyegegwa District, Kyegegwa district leaders told Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja that the contractor PEKASA Contractors was supposed to complete the works in September, but the road has not been completed six months after the signing of the contract. They also argued that the road was impassable, narrow and without culverts.

Following the complaints, Nabbanja halted the road works and ordered investigations.

John Kisoke, the Kyegegwa LCV Chairperson says that the contractor will continue with the road works. According to Kisoke, district leaders and George Sande, the Managing Director met at the Office of the Prime Minister over the matter.

According to Kisoke, Sande agreed to rectify the defects on the road at his cost. Kisoke also said that the leaders have been tasked to supervise government projects to curb cases of shoddy work.

Kisoke also said the Office of the Prime Minister sent two engineers, Michael Muhindo and Beatrice Katusabe to ensure that the materials used are up to standard.

The road connects the four sub-counties of Kyegegwa district, namely Kakabara, Kasule, Hapuyo sub-county and Hapuyo Town council before joining Nabingola sub-county in Mubende district.
