Construction of a two-kilometre bridge on Amodo swamp in Dokolo
district will start next month.
The bridge is supposed to connect Lira to Dokolo, Kaberamaido and
Amolatar districts via Agwata and Kwera Sub Counties.
Construction of the bridge estimated to cost 4 billion shillings was
scheduled to start in the last financial year 2018/2019 but was halted due to
lack of funds.
Engineer Richard Odongo, the bridge and drainage specialist at the
Ministry of Works says the construction works will start next month.
Odongo says they have received about one hundred million shillings
to kick start the construction.
Last week a team of Engineers from the Ministry of works led by
the Commissioner in- charge Bridge construction, Eng. Steven Kitonsa visited
Amodo swamp in a bid to start community sensitization about the project.
Lilly Otiti, a resident of Ajete village, Adwoki parish in Agwata Sub
County says they are unable to transport their products to markets due to
absence of the bridge.

Jennifer Okello, another resident say that once the bridge is constructed, it will
ease transport in the area since it is the only viable road for them.
She notes that many patients mainly expectant mothers have often lost their
lives due to inadequate means of transport.
Cecilia Ogwal, the Dokolo District Woman MP, says the absence of the bridge on
the swamp has continued to hamper connection to other areas.
