Dr. Patricia Achan Okiria, the Deputy Inspector General of Government-IG, has ordered corrective works on the newly constructed administration block at Kotido General Hospital.

The block was constructed by Good Deed Construction Company Limited for 450 million shillings. During her monitoring visit on Wednesday, Dr Achan revealed that the IG's office had received numerous complaints about substandard work.

In January 2025, Major Martha Asiimwe, head of the RDC secretariat, identified similar problems during her monitoring exercise of government projects in Karamoja, including poorly fixed doors, and cracks in floors, walls, and ceiling boards among others.

Dr. Achan emphasized that the government expects high standards in its projects, and substandard work will not be tolerated. She directed the district authorities to ensure the contractor addressed the issues before handing over the facility.

Dr Achan further advises the contractors that when carrying out the correctional works, they should use adhesive cement and terrazzo floors to address the cracking of the walls and floors.

Oola Donato Olam, the Kotido District Chief Administrative Officer -CAO, assured Dr. Achan that his office would notify the contractor about the required corrections.

Charles Ichogor, the Kotido district Resident district Commision-RDC says the Deputy IG's directive is a clear indication of the government's commitment to ensuring that public funds are utilized efficiently and effectively.

Ichogor says the contractor's failure to meet the expected standards raises concerns about the overall quality of work in public projects and wonders what roles the technocrats and politicians play in their monitoring exercise of the government projects during construction.
