Counter-Terrorism Police Officer Arrested Over Rape

A Policeman attached to the Counter -Terrorism - CT Unit has been arrested on allegations of raping an 18-year-old girl.

The officer was arrested after the girl’s mother opened a case of rape at the Criminal Investigations Directorate – CID headquarters at Kibuli.

In her statement, the teenager whose name has been withheld, said the officer raped her on Tuesday evening on Sixth Street, Industrial Area, Central Division of Kampala City.

The girl reportedly alerted her mother who stays in Kibuli and she was immediately led to CID headquarters. At CID, a surgeon was assigned to conduct an examination that has since proven that the victim was indeed raped.

The girl said after learning that she had been dragged to CID, the officer allegedly sent his colleague to convince her to settle matters early enough. The mother alerted CID officers who laid a trap for the officer to meet the victim. The police officer was reportedly arrested at the spot on Wednesday where he agreed to meet the teenager.

The police officer was first dragged to Kisugu police station commanded by ASP Joseph Kakooza but was later transferred to Kabalagala police division.

Deputy Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed  arrest of their officer adding that investigations were moving on smoothly.

“It is true we have arrested our officer on allegations of raping a woman and he is currently detained at Kabalagala police station. He is facing charges of rape and will be taken to court once investigations are done,” said Owoyesigyire.

The case has been recorded under criminal reference CRB 27/24/03/2020. The case file is expected to be sent to Directorate of Public Prosecution – DPP on Monday next week.
