Counterfeit Agro-Chemicals worth unspecified amount of money have been impounded in Masindi district. The counterfeit agro chemicals were impounded from agro input shops on Monday in an impromptu operation involving Police and Masindi district agricultural officials.
The operation was aimed at cracking down on Agro-Chemical dealers operating below the required standards. Job Byaruhanga, the Masindi District Agriculture Officer who led the operation told Uganda Radio Network that they confiscated 40 bottles of expired pesticides, five boxes of liquid fertilizer and a box of Paraquart, a weed chemical that was banned by the Agriculture Ministry.
He also says they recovered chemicals without their manufacturing date while some shops were found with materials they use to repackage the chemicals. Byaruhanga says they also found that most of the Agro-input shops in Masindi were being operated by unqualified people.

Byaruhanga explains that only one of the six Agro-Chemical shops they inspected met the standards set by Ministry of Agriculture.

He said the operation will continue, adding that they will close all Agro-input shops that operate the below the required standard.
The operation comes barely a week after officials from the Allied Health Professional Council closed several drug shops, Clinics and Laboratories in Masindi town for operating below minimum standards.
