Court Blocks Nomination of Rubanda West NRM Candidate

Juma Shesa, the Kabale District Returning Officer of the Independent Electoral Commission has confirmed receiving the court order restricting the NRM party from presenting Denis Sabiit for nomination as its Rubanda West MP flag bearer.
High Court has issued an interim order stopping the National Resistance Movement party from presenting Denis Sabiit as its flag bearer for the Rubanda county West seat pending the disposal of a petition challenging his election.

Mbabazi Agatonika, the Kabale High Court Registrar issued the injunction of Tuesday in response to an application filed by Henry Banyenzaki, the incumbent Rubanda West MP challenging the outcomes of the Rubanda West NRM MP primaries. Banyenzaki is challenging the poll results citing electoral malpractices.

He rushed to court after the NRM party Electoral Commission declined to nullify the Rubanda West NRM MP primary results. Banyenzaki told URN last evening he decided to block the nomination of rival after the party Electoral Commission failed to address his grievances.

Juma Shesa, the Kabale District Returning Officer of the Independent Electoral Commission has confirmed receiving the court order restricting the NRM party from presenting Denis Sabiit for nomination as its Rubanda West MP flag bearer. Shesa promised to forward the matter to the Commission legal team on the way forward.

Denis Sabiit, the winner of the Rubanda West MP Primaries told URN that he had only heard about the court from other people. According to Denis Sabiit, he will chat away forward after receiving the court order. The countrywide nomination for MP candidates starts this morning at various Electoral Commission offices.
