Court Issues Criminal Summons Against Basajjabalaba

Vincent Mugabo, Buganda Road chief magistrate has issued criminal summons for city businessman Hassan Basajjabalaba to appear in court on September 17.

Basajjabalaba is wanted for assaulting Arthur Kintu, the New Vision photo journalist at the just concluded NRM national executive conference in Namboole.

Mugabo issued the summons for Basajjabalaba this afternoon after the businessman twice failed to show up at the Metropolitan police headquarters for questioning.

Yesterday, Paul Kato, the Metropolitan Police CID chief summoned Basajjabalaba for questioning for voter bribery and assaulting Kintu in vain.

Trouble for Basajjabalaba started on Monday when he punched Kintu for taking his pictures while dishing money to NRM delegates at Namboole stadium.

Kintu recorded a statement at Police accusing the businessman of assault. Kintu is the second journalists within a space of two weeks to be assaulted by Basajjabalaba.

In June, Basajjabalaba beat up Ivan Kalanzi, a journalist with Radio Two during the botched Uganda Muslim Supreme Council general assembly.

Kalanzi ran in trouble when he sought a comment from Basajjabalaba who was facing impeachment from the seat of Uganda Muslim Supreme Council chairperson for alleged corruption and misconduct.
