The Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court has convicted and sentenced Isaac Mukwaya, a Subaru driver who tried to hit a traffic police officer at Jinja Road Roundabout last year.
Mukwaya was on Wednesday convicted and sentenced to pay a fine of 600,000 shillings or in default, go to prison for six months on charges of careless driving and failing to stop when signaled by a police officer in uniform who was in the execution of his duties.

As a result, State Attorney Ivan Kyazze tendered before the Court presided over by the Chief Magistrate Ronald Kayizzi their agreement containing the terms and conditions made by both parties.
Court has heard that on June 12th, 2023 at about 3 pm at the parking yard of Lyca Mobile Company in Kampala District, Mukwaya drove motor vehicle registration number UAZ 515 Subaru Foresta Black in Color without reasonable consideration for other road users.
He had previously denied the charges but in their agreement which our Reporter has seen, Mukwaya mitigated his sentence pleading that he is a family man with a wife and children to look after.
He also pleaded that he is ready to reform because he is still a youth.
As a result, the pre bargain agreement was endorsed by Kayiizi and Mukwaya held temporarily in court cells waiting to clear the fine which he has opted for as a opposed to the custodial sentence.
Just like other accused persons, Mukwaya is now entitled to his one million shillings he had paid previously as commitment to secure bail since his case has come to an end.
Trouble for Mukwaya started when he attempted to knock a Police officer at Kitgum Junction on Jinja Road and sped off.Police indicated that he violated the traffic lights when police officer Josam Katongole plucked off the front number plate.
Mukwaya later drove to Central Police Station in Kampala but reportedly had a sick child in the vehicle and was told to take the child to Hospital and later report back. According to police reports, one hour later Mukwaya returned to CPS and was arrested after a video clip had gone viral on social media platforms.
In 2022, more than 10 police officers died in road crashes, with at least three deliberately being knocked down. One of those deliberately killed was hit by a vehicle belonging to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
