Court Sentences Two to Death in Iganga

Justice Eldard Mwangusha has sentenced two men to death for killing their wives in two separate incidents. The convicts are 57-year-old Zachariah Nkwobe, and 30-year-old Majidu Kasule.

The duo appeared today before Justice Eldard Mwangusha in a criminal session that ongoing in Iganga town. Court heard that in October 2003, at Lugala Village in Bugiri district Nkwobe hacked his wife Jennifer Martine to death.

It is alleged that after murdering the deceased Nkwobe locked up her body in the house until it was discovered by his neighbors who were attracted by the foul smell.

Court heard, Rose Negesa a neighbour to the deceased reported the matter to the LC when then called in the police. Nkwobe pleaded not guilty to the charges saying that during the said time he was outside the country.

In the other case prosecution told court that in April 2005, at Waigona road in Iganga town Majidu Kasule killed his wife Marion Nandesa accusing her of eloping with another man. Kasule pleaded not guilty to the charges.

In his ruling justice Mwangusha said that the prosecution had proved the case beyond reasonable doubt and therefore sentenced both men to death.

He said the sentence would serve as a deterrent to other people that killing is not a solution to marital wrangles.
