On Tuesday, court presided over by Abdullah Khaiza, the Lyantonde Grade One Magistrate on Tuesday castigated Kakooza for continuously failing to honour summons issued to him.
The Lyantonde Grade One Magistrates court has warned the Kabula
County Member of Parliament Joseph Kakooza for not honouring summons.
Kakooza was in February dragged to court for assault, which he
allegedly committed during the 2016 National Resistance Movement-NRM party primary
elections.
He was sued by Rhadi Kamulumba, a councillor representing Kooki
ward to Lyantonde Town council.
On Tuesday, court presided over by Abdullah Khaiza, the Lyantonde
Grade One Magistrate castigated Kakooza for continuously failing to honour
summons issued to him.
Although the MP was represented by Ausi Zimunenya Kibuule,
a lawyer attached to Mayanja, Nakibuule and Company Advocates, the magistrate
declined to take their submission, ruling that Kakooza should first appear
before court.
Kibuule told court that his client was ill and could not appear in court. However, the presiding magistrate did not agree with his submission,
saying that MP is intentionally skipping court.
In his ruling, Khaiza warned Kakooza that court will be forced to
issue a warrant of arrest if he fails to show up on May 14th.
This is the second time Kakooza has failed to appear in court to
answer charges.
Last month he did not also appear on grounds that he was attending
to parliamentary duties assigned to him by the Speaker.
