COVID-19: Kotido Water Offices Closed After Staff Member Tests Positive

Kotido district water offices have temporarily closed after a staff member tested positive for the Coronavirus (COVID-19). The office closed on Thursday.

The positive case was part of the 44 samples taken last week from the district staff and civil servants following a resolution by the district taskforce for all civil servants to test.

The resolution was made after some of the staff from Moroto district tested positive to the virus. Joseph Lomongin, the Chief Administrator Officer Kotido said the water department shall remain closed for several days as the taskforces seek resources for fumigating the department.

All the staff of the department have been asked to work from home as a measure to avoid the spread of the virus. Lomongin explains that the positive cases have been evacuated to Moroto Regional Referral Hospital for treatment, while six other staff members have been asked to self-isolate.

Meanwhile, the security team in Kotido is on high on alert following reports that escapees from Moroto government prison was cited in different areas of Kotido. The RDC Peter Logiro is urging the community to be vigilant and report to relevant authorities in case they see any suspected escapees so that they can be isolated from the community.

“The community should be vigilant and should report to security agencies for immediate response. There are fears that some of them are positive to COVID-19 and therefore should not mix with the communities,” said Logiro on Friday.

Dr Cerino Acar, the District Heath Officer Kotido urged the communities to be more vigilant and observe the standard operating procedures set by the Ministry of Health. Last month Kotido registered its the first case of COVID-19 but all the samples of the 188 contacts traced returned negative.
