Covid-19: Tara Health Center III Closed After One Staff Tests Positive

Tara Health Center III in Maracha district has temporarily closed after one health worker tested positive for covid-19.

According to district health authorities, the assistant in- charge of the health facility tested positive, the health information assistant together with her husband and another staff who all live within the health facility presented with signs of covid-19.

The patient and the suspects have been isolated in their staff houses at the health center..

Ten other staff of the health facility have also been quarantined within the health center as they are closely being monitored by the district covid-19 health team.

Dr Paul Onzubo the District Health Officer Maracha says that they are establishing where the in-charge could have contracted the virus from.

Dr Onzubo has urged the people in the Sub County to seek health services elsewhere as the health center remains closed for two weeks.

The closure of the health center has forced residents to trek long distances to access health services at Odupiri Health Center II in Tara Sub County, while others to Wadra Health Center III in Yivu Sub County and Lurujo Health Center III in Koboko district.

Lawrence Adiga, the LCV Chairman of Maracha has described the closure of the facility as unfortunate but urged the people to be patient and remain vigilant as the district task force manages the situation.

Since the covid-19 outbreak, Maracha district has registered eight positive cases.  The first victim was a resident of Koboko Municipality, while the second and third cases were staff of Maracha Hospital who have since been successfully treated and discharged.

The Village Health Teams- VHTs in the Sub County have started sensitizing residents on the need to observe the SOPs for covid-19 prevention to avoild further spread of the pandemic.
