Cranes Stop French Military team 3-1

The Uganda Cranes on Saturday defeated the French Military 3-1 in an international friendly match played at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

The game that was also played to cement the co-operation between Uganda and France saw the hosts take the lead after 30 minutes when Geoffrey Sserunkuma converted a penalty.

Lamonnier Rylan had brought down skipper Emmanuel Okwi in the box, and Sserunkuma, who is Uganda's Premier League leading scorer with 12 goals converted the penalty. After three minutes Uganda Cranes defender Nichoals Wadada had his shot parried away by the French Military team goalkeeper Accart Quentin.

The visitors also had their chance miss by inches later through Oggad Yann. But Okwi increased the score for Uganda Cranes with a good shot after a well taken Erisa Ssekisambu cross on 42 minutes.

After 60 minutes the French Military side pulled one back through Mouslin Andhum. He benefited from a well taken cross by the good dribbling Yann. But the hosts killed of the game with another penalty conversion by Martin Kiiza. Defender Bouyahia Abdeltif had fouled in the box.

“ I am very happy that I have tried out many young players and they are starting to have some playing time in their legs,” Uganda Cranes coach Milutin ‘Micho' Sredojevic said after the match watched by over 15,000 fans.
