Uganda Cranes team on Monday morning flew out to West Africa ahead of a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Ghana.

Head coach Milutin ‘Micho' Sredojevic told URN on phone that the team is well motivated for the game.  The Cranes will face Togo in an international friendly in Lome on Tuesday before heading to the town of Tamale where they face Ghana on Friday.

“Due to lack of match action for some of the players, this match against Togo will be a good check up before we battle Ghana,” the Serbian born coach Sredojevic told URN.

The Cranes travel to West Africa with high levels of motivation after the President of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni offered UGX660 million to prepare for the match.

Last month Uganda Cranes broke the 38-year jinx to qualify for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).

“We know Ghana is a strong team and we need to prepare for them well enough,” added the coach.

Ghana who are chasing their fourth straight appearance at the World Cup were last weekend held to a draw 1-1 by Rwanda in a 2017 Afcon qualifier  played in Accra. Congo Brazzaville are the other team in Group E of the qualifiers.

There are five groups of four teams with only the winners of each group making it to Russia in 2018.
