Crested Cranes Intensify Preparations ahead of COSAFA Championship in South Africa

Uganda national women's team, the Crested Cranes have stepped up preparations ahead for the forthcoming COSAFA Women's Championship.

The team under the guidance of coach George Lutalo is camped and preparing at the FUFA Technical Center in Njeru.

Foreign based players Sandra Nabweteme and Laki Otandeka who play for Fimleikafélag Hafnarfjarðar of Iceland and New Jersey Copa FC of the United States of America also joined the team.

Forward Nabweteme says it is a privilege for her to be recalled on the National team. She  believes the tournament will be a great platform for the team has spent close to two years without playing active football as they also prepare for 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations qualifiers

Otandika also believes it is a privilege to be called to the national team.  She promised to work hard to be able to make the final squad that will travel to South Africa for the tournament.

This will be the second time that Uganda features at the COSAFA Women’s Champions with the maiden appearance coming in 2018 where the Crested Cranes settled for third place.

The Crested Cranes are placed in Group C alongside Namibia, Eswatini and Zambia who took part in the Tokyo Olympics. The tournament will also help teams prepare before the start of the qualifiers for the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations that are scheduled to begin in October.
