Daudi Kaunhe Wakhooli, the Isabalangila of Busoga has assumed office as the Acting Kyabazinga of Busoga Kingdom.

The move follows last month’s presidential directive to Wilson Muteebe Muweereza the former prime minister of Busoga to hand over the keys and particulars of Busoga kingdom to Daudi Kaunhe Wakhooli who would then be reinstated as the acting Kyabazinga.

The President’s Directive was based on resolutions from a meeting between President Museveni, Busoga hereditary chiefs, the newly-elected members of Busoga Lukhiiko (parliament) and clan leaders. The meeting was held at State House Entebbe last month.

Early this week, a cross section of Busoga leaders expressed discomfort with the president’s guidance and accused him of meddling into internal leadership affairs of the kingdom. Busoga has had no substantive Kyabazinga since the death of Henry Wako Muloki in September 2008.

Daudi Kaunhe Wakhooli, the acting Kyabazinga pledged to reinstate the Busoga Lukiiko and prepare for fresh election for the Kyabazinga of Busoga within 60 days after the approval of a new kingdom constitution.

However, some of the chiefs of Busoga expressed concern over the prime ministers accountability of the transactions undertaken on Busoga kingdom’s properties. Yasin Waguma Ntembe the chief of Butembe chiefdom says the prime minister was involved in several dubious deals that need to be investigated.

Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga presided over the installation of the acting Kyabazinga. In her remarks, Kadaga said that the prime minister must return all documents and property of Busoga kingdom after the auditors have done their work.

Patrick Mwondha, the clerk to the Busoga Lukiiko says the offices of the Clerk to Busoga kingdom, Kyabazinga and permanent secretary have been closed with new locks pending government auditor’s reports.

Busoga kingdom has been embroiled in leadership wrangles since 2008 after the death Henry Waako Muloki the Fourth Kyabazinga of Busoga. Two elections were held to replace the Kyabazinga but were annulled by court over lack of quorum.
