Coffee Disease Ravages Buvuma Plantations

Coffee farmers in Buvuma district are worried about unknown disease that is ravaging their plantations. According to some of the farmers, the disease dries the stem of the plant, spreads to the leaves and eventually the entire plant.

Hajjat Mariam Nakato, a resident of Buwangwe village in Busamuzi Sub County has over 18 acres of coffee in Kakyanga village in the same sub county. According to Nakato, the disease has destroyed her entire coffee plantation.

Nakato says she got the coffee plants under Operation Wealth Creation with the aim of boosting her income. She explains that even since got the coffee seeds, she has found numerous challenges.

He calls upon government to put in place a team to help sensitize the farmers on how to overcome the disease.
