Kiprotich said the whole team is prepared to do the country proud because they have been training hard. Jasper Aligawesa, secretary of the National Council of Sports (NCS) who officially flagged off the team told the athletes to carry the national flag high enough as they are representing millions of Ugandans.

The 26-year old Benjamin Kiplagat who was given a wild card by IAAF to compete in the 3,000 steeplechase said that he will not disappoint.  Kiplagat finished 14th at the 2013 World Championships in Moscow, Russia.

Besides Kiprotich, the team also has Phillip Kipyeko, Jackson Kiprop, Ronald Musagala, Solomon Mutai, Moses Kibet, Joshua Cheptegei and Timothy Toroitich among others. Triple Commonwealth Games gold medalist Moses Ndiema Kipsiro failed to qualify for the Championship.
