The nomination exercise for the residual and by-elections in Rakai District was on Monday delayed due to lack of a stamp. By 4 pm, the exercise was yet to commence, raising concerns from the aspirants.

Sylvia Tegyeza, the Rakai District Registrar, said that the aspirants were ready with their nomination forms, but were yet to be stamped by Chief Magistrate Patrick Kityo who was not in the office.

The by-election will be conducted for the Kifamba Male Youth Councilor position which fell vacant following the death of Augustine Jaggwe of National Unity Platform-NUP who died in a car accident. The other position is for the Female Elderly Representative for Lwentulege Town council, PWD which is vacant following the death of Regina Nambooze.

For Lwentulege and Lwamaggwa Town Council, the two positions were not contested due to a lack of candidates.

According to the Kifamba Male Youth Councilor aspirants, Alex Kiweewa of the National Resistance Movement-NRM party, Sharif Ssaku of the National Unity Platform-NUP, and Yosam Ssuuna (independent) say that they were at the office of the Chief Magistrate at 10:00 am, but by 4 pm, he had not yet arrived.

Elisa Wangi Ssemanda, the Rakai NRM Secretary, says that they had prepared their

aspirants for the nomination, but are disappointed by the delays.

The Electoral Commission set November 29 and 30 as nomination days for the local government residual election and by-elections. The elections will be conducted on December 16.
