The Democratic Party (DP) elections have hit a snag after organisers realised they do not have enough ballot boxes to conduct the elections.

The DP national delegates\' conference organisers had reportedly requested for 50 ballot boxes from the national Electoral Commission (EC). EC handed over 15 ballot boxes.

John Baptist Kawanga, the National Vice Chairperson, says the 15 ballot boxes are not enough to conduct elections for all the party positions being contested for.

Kawanga says the lack of ballot boxes might prompt the party to postpone the elections until more ballot boxes are secured.

National Organising Secretary Suleiman Kidandala has been dispatched to secure more ballot boxes.

The announcement about the shortage of ballot boxes attracted boos and questions about the organisation of the polls.

Delegates took the opportunity to question how Kidandala, who is organising the elections, can also be a candidate.

James Kiwanuka, a delegate from Wakiso, says the elections should have been handled by a neutral party selected by the National Executive Committee.

Cue out: …an independent electoral commission.”//

Elia Alitia, a delegate from Arua, is running for the Vice Chairperson Northern Uganda slot. He strongly supports the argument that a neutral person run the party\'s polls.

Mohamed Baswale Kezaala, the National Party Chairperson, says the complaints raised by the delegates  have been noted and will be incorporated in future.

In the meantime DP treasurer general Issa Kikungwe is expected to address delegates on the party\'s financial health.

The delegates are also expected to debate and decide on a motion to amend the party constitution to incorporate Uganda Young Democrats (UYD), the elderly and women\'s league.
