According to the DEO Bundibugyo District Justus Bithaghalire, the district had given a go ahead to schools that scored atleast 60 percent of the recommended Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) issued the Ministry of Education and Health to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Bundibugyo District Education
authorities have approved 121 out of 150 schools in the district and two technical institutes
to reopen today for final year learners.

Bithghalire, the Bundibugyo District Education Officer told Uganda
Radio Network -URN on Wednesday evening that they have given a go ahead
to schools that scored at least
60 percent of the recommended Standard Operation
Procedures (SOPs) issued by the Ministry of Education and Health to
prevent the
spread of COVID-19.
Bithaghalire said by Wednesday
evening they had issued out certificates of compliance and masks to all
institutions that have been okayed to re-open.
He said candidates from the 29 schools
that were not cleared have been asked to be incorporated into neighboring schools.

Bithghalire re-emphasized that the
district task force will close any institution that flouts the set out
guidelines.
Ezekia Masereka, a head teacher at
Standard Nursery and Primary School in Ntotoro Sub County says they are still
struggling to put in place all the requirements due to financial incapacitation. His says that the school is relying
on parents who have promised to contribute funds to buy sanitizers, soap and
hand washing facilities.

According to the pronouncement made
by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on September 20, institutions are expected to
reopen today following the set out guidelines.
The guidelines include; foot-operated
hand washing facilities, daily screening of learners and staff at the gate,
social distancing between learners, good sanitation facilities among others.
