The Ministry of Education and Sports has cautioned about a fake advert circulating on different platforms to the effect that the government is recruiting teachers to be deployed in different districts.

The said advert has been calling applicants for vacancies in government secondary schools to submit their application online using an email; [email protected]. But Dr Asuman Lukwago, the Secretary of the Education Service Commission, says the advert and the quoted email are fake.

Dr Lukwago explains that the commission has learnt that the conmen are working in a racket with some teachers and the matter have since been reported to police for investigation.

Rhoda Namubiru, a graduate teacher from Kalungu, attests that she nearly fell victim to the scam after receiving calls from purported officials of the commission.

“They called asking for money so that they help to be shortlisted. I suspected that they were conmen. when I re-examined the advert, I found it too good to be true. A friend also told me that the Education Service Commission has a standard application form yet in this case they required written copies,” Namubiru noted.

Beside conning teachers, the same group has been targeting officials of the Education Service commission while posing as officials from the Ministry of Finance.

Available data indicates that many trained teachers are unemployed, while a few who are working in the private sector are underemployed, a situation that has been heightened by the school closures resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.

For that reason, many teachers are desperately looking up to be enlisted on the government payroll and many of them end up being fleeced by unscrupulous individuals who promise them a soft landing into civil service.
