Six-time African champions Egypt will host Uganda Cranes in an international friendly today starting 8pm at the Air Force Stadium in Cairo.

The hosts are using the game to prepare for a 2014 World Cup qualifier play-off against the Black Stars of Ghana on October 15 in the first leg before the second leg on November 19.

The Cranes who are also using the game as a build-up ahead of their defense of the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup and the 2014 Africa Nations Championship traveled to Cairo last evening.

Coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic’s team was meant to face Iraq on October 3 in the Amman Stadium in Jordan, but the earlier plans were put on hold. “We decided to put on hold the Iraq game because they were slow on finalizing certain things,” said Mujib Kasule, the FA Vice President in-charge of the League and chairman of the technical committee who also traveled with the team last evening.

On August 14th, Egypt beat Uganda 3-0 in an international friendly played in El Gouna.

Egypt were meant to face Sierra Leone in a build-up, but the later backed out of the arrangement and the EFA acted quickly to find another African team to play.

Micho told Uganda Radio Network before the team left on Sunday that although this invitation was abrupt, they want to give players a chance to get more exposure ahead of the different championships ahead.
