Egypt Defeats Uganda To Win Afro-Basketball Qualifiers

Uganda womens basketball teams, the Gazelles however do not qualify with three loses and one win. On Saturday they were stopped by Egypt 92-68.

Uganda men's national basketball team, the Silverbacks on Saturday night lost to Egypt in the finals of the 2017 Afro-basketball qualifiers at Cairo Stadium.

The team skippered by Steven Omony that already qualified for the Afro-Basketball Championship lost 95-72 in a hotly contested game. Uganda had earlier defeated Somalia,Burundi and Rwanda to qualify for the finals.

However in yesterday's game, Egypt dominated the game after winning in all the four quarters.

The Egyptians won the first and second quarter 29-18 and 24-18 respectively, before taking over the third and fourth quarter 19-16 and 23-20.

Captain Stephen Omony made 19 points, while Darius Pegues picked 17 points for team Uganda. For the Egyptian side Haytham Khalifa made a game high 22 points, while Omar Oraby and Amr  Abdhelahim each made 20 points.

Although they lost, Uganda automatically qualifies for Afro-basketball Championship 2017 to be held in Libreville in Congo in August this year.
