Uganda's top player Edwin Ekiring is focusing on the 2015 Egypt International Open Badminton Championship to take place October 15-18 in Cairo.

Ekiring who won bronze at the 2015 All Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville told URN on Monday that he will not stop in his quest to try and qualify for next year's Rio Olympic Games. “I am working hard to try and qualify for my third Olympic Games. Every player wants to be at the Olympics,” added Ekiring.

The Netherlands based player who climbed to 76th place in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings last week said he needs to maintain the momentum and gets to the top 50. “I will participate in the Egypt event before returning to Europe for another tournament this month,” added Ekiring.

He will be ranked top for the Egypt event, he will face stiff competition from Slovenia's Roj Alen, Deslawriers Shinsai (France) and the Malaysian duo of MD Tah Muhamed Ziyad and Misbun Shawal Mohmed Misbun.

During the 2015 Nigerian International Open Championship that ended in Abuja last weekend Ekiring lost in the semi-final to eventual winner Howard Shu from the US. The loss at the semi final stage is bad news for Ekiring as he will be deducted points since he won the event last year. According to the ranking rules a player loss points if he/she fails to defend a title won the previous year.
